I travel a lot and used this phone for the first time last week. It was a trip to Play del Carmen. I set it up and tested with Skybe before leaving. Once I got to Mexico, it was good to go. I used it to call and keep in touch with work, family and friends.
It became ESPECIALLY handy when Hurricane Dean was forecast to hit the small beach side town we were in. It worked great with my laptop on the hotels wireless network. Great call quality from my room and lobby.
I used it extensively to rearrange all our airline tickets and to keep relatives and work with what was going on. Luckily we got out of there less than 24 hours before the Cat 5 hurricane hit.

A few months ago, as my business and personal contacts shifted abroad, I became — and have remained — a heavy Skype user. I use Skype as my primary phone in many ways, but I don’t really use it for video. I have an Apple laptop and have been really satisfied with the call quality provided by the built in microphone. But it has become a bit of a drag to angle myself at just the right position so that the mic pics everything up clearly — thus I started to look for Mac-compatible USB phones. Why USB? Well, mainly because USB audio transmission is cleaner (i.e., less noise, hiss or buzz) than audio ports. It’s a difference I’ve seen repeatedly while making audio recordings. Some of you may be considering audio headsets that plug into the microphone and headphone port. Really the question you should be asking is whether you want the IPEVO with the screen or without. I got this router directly from Vonage in early 2006 and it is still working well with Vonage and LAN connections.
I know Vonage has a bad rep with many. My own experience has been good for over 5 years now. Mostly I used it with a cable modem. Now I have ATT DSL @ 6 Mbps and it is still working well.
I once tested out wireless. It was slower than wired and since my computers are close together decided to stick with wired. Wireless did work OK for the short interval I used it, though.
Just won a backup used router on Ebay yesterday so I will be covered for at least a couple of more years, just in case something happens to my old router. Read more...
